A Hazy Shade of Winter

Seasons change with the scenery
Weaving time in a tapestry
Won't you stop and remember me
At any convenient time?

I look around
Leaves are brown, now
And the sky is a hazy shade of winter

Look around
Leaves are brown
There's a patch of snow on the ground

Paul Simon
A Hazy Shade of Winter

Today is my 68th birthday.  I understand the brown leaves. I feel the patch of snow.

Nothing makes you feel older
than pain
and there is no greater pain
than the pain
of watching one of your children
suffer

I'm counting on
butterflies
and strength after
struggle

I'm counting on courage
and hope

I'm counting on
him

to figure it out
to make it right
to find peace
and happiness
finally

he deserves it.
