Centerfield

Well, beat the drum and hold the phone
The sun came out today!
We’re born again, there’s new grass on the field.
A-roundin’ third, and headed for home
It’s a brown-eyed handsome man;
Anyone can understand the way I feel.

Oh, put me in, coach - I’m ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - I’m ready to play today;
Look at me, I can be centerfield.

Well, I spent some time in the mudville nine
Watchin’ it from the bench;
You know I took some lumps
When the mighty casey struck out.
So say hey willie, tell Ty Cobb and Joe DiMaggio;
Don’t say "it ain’t so", you know the time is now.

Oh, put me in, coach - I’m ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - I’m ready to play today;
Look at me, I can be centerfield.

Got a beat-up glove, a homemade bat
And brand-new pair of shoes;
You know I think it’s time to give this game a ride.
Just to hit the ball and touch ’em all - a moment in the sun;
(pop) And you can kiss that one good-bye!

Oh, put me in, coach - I’m ready to play today;
Put me in, coach - I’m ready to play today;
Look at me, I can be centerfield.

Nobody Knows Me

But it was a dream made to order
South of the border

And nobody knows me like my baby

And she cried, "Man how could you do it?"
And I swore that there weren't nothing to it

But nobody knows me like my baby

Nobody Knows Me
Lyle Lovett

Where does trust go when you lose it?
It feels like a hole that gets deeper and deeper
with every lie and untruth
with every con and manipulation
until trust is so far down the hole
you just can't reach it any more
no matter how hard you try

When It Don't Come Easy

So many things that I had before
That don't matter to me now
Tonight I cry for the love that I've lost
And the love I've never found

When It Don't Come Easy

Nobody Cryin'

Well a long night turns into a couple long years
Of me walkin' around, around this trail of tears
Where the very loud voice of my own fears
Is ringin' and ringin' in my ears

It says that love is long gone
Every move I make is all wrong
Says you never gave a damn for me
For anything, for anyone

But darling, I wish you well
On your way to the wishing well
Swinging off of those gates of hell
But I can tell how hard you're trying,

Just have that secret hope
Sometimes all we do is cope
Somewhere on the steepest slope
There'll be an endless rope
And nobody crying.

May you dream you are dreaming, in a warm soft bed
And may the voices inside you that fill you with dread
Make the sound of thousands of angels instead
Tonight where you might be laying your head

Nobody Cryin'

Kathy's Song

I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls.

Changes

Sit by my side, come as close as the air,
Share in a memory of gray;
Wander in my words, dream about the pictures
That I play of changes.

Green leaves of summer turn red in the fall
To brown and to yellow they fade.
And then they have to die, trapped within
the circle time parade of changes.

Scenes of my young years were warm in my mind,
Visions of shadows that shine.
Til one day I returned and found they were the
Victims of the vines of changes.

The world's spinning madly, it drifts in the dark
Swings through a hollow of haze,
A race around the stars, a journey through
The universe ablaze with changes.

Moments of magic will glow in the night
All fears of the forest are gone
But when the morning breaks they're swept away by
golden drops of dawn, of changes.

Passions will part to a strange melody.
As fires will sometimes burn cold.
Like petals in the wind, we're puppets to the silver
strings of souls, of changes.

Your tears will be trembling, now we're somewhere else,
One last cup of wine we will pour
And I'll kiss you one more time, and leave you on
the rolling river shores of changes.

Don't Think Twice It's All Right

So long honey, babe
Where I'm bound, I can't tell
Good-bye's too good a word, babe
So I'll just say fare thee well
I ain't sayin' you treated me unkind
You could have done better
But I don't mind
You just kinda wasted
My precious time
But, don't think twice it's all right

Don't Think Twice It's All Right

Poor Man's House

You know you've done enough
When every bone is sore
You know you'be prayed enough
When you don't ask any more

You know you're coming to
Some kind of understanding
When every dream you've dreamed
has passed and you're still standing

The Umbrella Man

Toodle - lumma lumma
Toodle - lumma lumma
Toodle - aye-aaaaa
Any umbrellas, any umbrellas
To mend today?

Bring your parasol, it may be small. It may be big
He'll repair them all with what you call a thing-a-ma-jig

Pitter patter patter! Pitter patter patter!
It looks like rain.
Let it pitter patter. Let it pitter patter.
Who minds the rain?

He'll mend your umbrellas, then go on his way
Singing toodle lumma lumma.
Toodle lumma lumma.
Any umbrellas to mend today.

When there's a lull
And things are dull
He'll sharpen knives for all the wives
In the neighborhood
And he's very good.

He'll darn a sock
Or fix a clock
An apple cart
A broken heart --
He'll mend anything
but he'd much rather sing -

Toodle - lumma lumma
Toodle - lumma lumma
Toodle-aye-aaa
Any umbrellas - any umbrellas
To mend today?

He'll mend your umbrella
Then go on his way singing
Toodle lumma lumma
Toodle lumma lumma
Any umbrellas to mend today

The Umbrella Man
Kay Kyser

The rain today reminded me of this song - and my mother.  It was one of her favorites.

Where is that umbrella man when you need him???

I WIll Not Be Denied

Finally made me realize
That I tried and tried
But you can't get enough
So you lied and lied and lied

Angel Doves

When it's hard for you to breathe
Keep a clear mind
When it's hard for you to be
Just to be yourself sometimes

Keep on believing God is
Soaring above a world that is
Running out of love
Pouring hope out over us
His angel doves

Mad Mission

It's a mad mission
Under difficult conditions
not everybody makes it
To the loving cup
It's a mad mission
But I got the ambition
Mad, mad mission
sign me up

Come Away With me

And I want to walk with you
On a cloudy day
In fields where the yellow grass grows knee-high
So won't you try to come?

Motherless Child

O sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Sometimes I feel like a motherless child
O my Lord, sometimes I feel like a motherless child
Then I get down on my knees and pray
Then I get down on my knees and pray

Sometimes I Feel Like A Motherless Child

I found notes on this Negro spiritual dating back to 1870 - a song of slaves.

Brand New Day

Most kind of stories
Save the best part for last
Most stories have a hero who finds
You make your past your past
Yeah you make your past your past

It’s a brand new day
The sun is shining
It’s a brand new day
For the first time
In such a long long time
I know
I’ll be ok

Brand New Day
Joshua Radin

I heard this on Pandora yesterday and couldn't get it out of my head - especially the verse and chorus above. I'm counting on it!
